St Patrick’s Primary School logo was designed to capture the tradition and vision of the school. Description of Logo Sisters of Mercy Cross – Acknowledges the many years of service the Sisters of Mercy gave to St Patrick’s School. Rays – These represent Christ’s light shining down on us. They originate from the cross and are a symbol of Jesus’ suffering and his guiding light for all Christians. These are green (the colour for St Patrick) in the coloured version of the logo. Motto – Truth Conquers – Jesus said, 'I am the way and the truth and the Life.' John 14:6 St Patrick’s motto relates to the value of honesty. St Patrick was born in Scotland, and at the age of 14, he was captured and taken to Ireland as a slave. In Ireland, he learned about the traditions and practices of his captors and prayed to God during the six years he was held there. He eventually escaped and returned to his family, only to be called back to Ireland in a dream to return and walk amongst the people once more. As a Bishop, Patrick began preaching the Gospel throughout the land. He and his disciples preached and converted thousands, building churches all over the country along the way. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity: - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit to the Irish people. The symbol of the shamrock has been associated with him and the Irish since that time. As our Patron Saint, we hold St Patrick in high esteem, and we acknowledge his feast day every year on the 17 March. Like Saint Patrick, we aspire to be a community that prays and works together and endeavours to be the light of Christ for others through word and action. Within our school, we have classes that we refer to as ‘home groups.' These home groups are allocated a name that relates to the rich history of our school. These names were decided on by the staff and came into effect in 2022. McAuley - Catherine McAuley was the founder of the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters of Mercy served as teachers at our school from 1954-1990. Polding - John Bede Polding was the founder of the Good Samaritan Sisters, who first served at our school for 30 years in 1918. Durkin - Fr. Durkin was the parish priest who ensured everything was ready for the opening of our school. Francis - Francis of Assisi is the Patron Saint of Ecology and Animals.
